The growing trend toward large scale artwork has taken off in recent years. Artwork can transform a space; from peaking our interest, affecting our mood, and even evoking a feeling. Artwork can also be used to tie colours together, and make a room have an overall cohesive look.
Some of the recent art pieces I’ve added to my home are from Minted.com. Minted is a design marketplace of independent artists showcasing crowdsourced art, textiles and stationery. Minted prints are available in a wide range of sizes, from 5×7² to 44×60² for landscape and portrait prints; and from 8×8² to 44×44² for square prints. Minted¹s extensive array of artworks are printed on museum-quality paper and available in a wide variety of unique framing options.
The artwork I selected to complement my living room colour scheme is: Melancholy Gaze by artist Amy from Design Lotus. This captivating “eye” sparked my curiosity, and I love that its dimensions and intricacies were inspired by the Aspen trees in Colorado.
The smaller print called Bird Geometry by artist Jennifer Morehead was selected to complement the larger print (and since I kind of have a “thing” for birds). This print is available in a range of colours that will work with most decor. I love the juxtaposition of a geometric piece paired with a woodland animal.
I love how these pieces help tie in the neutral tones of the adjacent room. The subtle monochromatic yellows in Melancholy Gaze play nicely off the settee in the dining room.
I absolutely adore this creative and playful print called Put A House On It by artist Hadley Hutton. It was perfect for my middle daughter’s room where the backdrop is a neutral grey paint called Tea from Home Hardware, with pops of bright pinks, limes, and turquoise.
This happy print makes me think of summertime, with its bright pink roses, and blue sky. My middle daughter also happened to be born on the day of the Summer Solstice. How perfect is that? Lol. I also love the little houses painted inside the bird. How whimsical, huh?
The neutral grey backdrop helps the wonderfully bright colours of this print pop.
It suits the room perfectly, and ties the bright accent colours all together.

I love how you decorated your house! My husband and I would like to decorate our place with our own artwork, but we find it challenging to find a place that print and frame oversized artwork at a good price… but we keep looking!
Hi Sandra. Thanks so much 🙂
I find IKEA has some reasonably priced large frames. I also like to scour thrift stores for frames I can spray paint.
