I couldn’t help but have a funny title for this post. Lol. We’ve had so much fun this past week and a half with our new puppy that I just had to create a cute little DIY just for him! He is a doll, and although he’s a tad bitey (since he’s teething) and sometimes likes to hump our legs, we love him to bits. What I discovered with having new puppy is that it’s a lot like having a new baby and with a new baby comes a lot of gear. I needed somewhere to put all his “puppy stuff” that we seem to have amassed and I wanted it to be stylish… hence… Doggy Style.
The Rules:
- Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
- There’s no monthly theme.
- There’s no budget to stick to.

For this month’s Thrift Store Upcycle, I did two projects. I created a fun little sign for our kitchen and a matching basket for all the puppy gear.
Meet Gus. He is the most handsome little Saint Bernard I ever did see (IMO).
Here is what I started off with. An old picture frame, a basket and a cute pillow case. Total cost was under $10.00.
I started by taking the frame apart and then spray painted the inner and outer frame in a creamy white colour.
The matting got a fabric treatment once I cut up the pillow case and secured it to the matte using fabric spray adhesive.
This frame didn’t come with any glass, but I did have an unused piece of picture frame glass in the craft stash, so I painted it using chalk paint and then picked up these cute letters at Michaels (using a 50% off coupon).
And there you have it. A fun little puppy sign. Once Gus gets to be fully house broken, we can use this as a menu board or a message board too.
Personally, I think this sign is hilarious, but I’m weird like that… I think it speaks to the reality of having a puppy. They are going to have accidents for sure.
For my next little doggy style DIY, I started by spray painting the basket using the same white spray paint I used on the picture frame.
I wanted to line the basket with the grey and white fabric, so I cut it into strips and hot glued it in place.
Next, I fit the oval shape in the bottom of the basket and trimmed it up to fit perfectly. I then hot glued it in place, which joined all the fabric pieces together.
A little name tag was tied to the front for fun, his toys and supplies were added and I call this project DONE!
Looks way better than the plastic pet store bag we had been storing everything in. Lol.
See you next time my friends,
And now for more thrifty goodness!
Check out what my fellow upcyclers created below!
Oh my goodness, Gus is so adorable! I love the “accident free days” frame and you could totally write anything you wanted on a chalkboard like that. Awesome job!
Gus is adorable and so is his toy basket that you upcycled! I’ll bet he loves it! I had a St. Bernard as a kid! The drool! LOL! They’re great dogs!

OMG this is all too cute! And Gus…..how adorable is he? I love the 0 accident free days. Poor little guy! I can’t imagine having a new puppy. I think I am way too old for it. LOL! Have a lot of fun with him and keep making these cute things.
Oh my gosh he’s adorable! My bestie just got a Saint Bernard and he’s a handful. He’s a huge puppy. I love the DIY’s! I need to make a cute basket for my girls!

How cute. And I mean the basket, the sign and especially Gus. Oh those puppy days, they go so fast,
Cute and simple…just the way I like it. The basket and the puppy are adorable! That boy is gonna get BIG! But I’m sure you know that…LOL. I’m like you, I always want the little toys stored away. Funny comparison to a baby, but it’s really true!!
Gus is such a cutie! And he will be so big before you know it so enjoy the tiny puppy cuddles. That sign you made is too funny!
What a cute combo! I’ve never thought about using fabric to cover a picture mat before–genius! Great job Sue 🙂
We are real dog people so I understand your happiness! What a cutie:) Love the fabric you chose, and the sign is adorable! xo Kathleen|Our Hopeful Home
Awww he is so cute, he deserved all you made for him. Love everything, the fabric you chose is perfect, you are so creative. I hope you keep the number of accidents at 0, good luck!
Can’t say “cute” enough! That puppy is beyond adorable. Crazy that he’ll grow up to be massive. Visiting from Thrift Store Challenge.
