I love all things Disney, and have cherished the memories made at Disneyworld with my girls. One of their favourite things to do while at Disney is to visit (and hug) Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Minnie is quickly becoming a huge hit with little girls, and I was thrilled to be able to make this cute bow for my niece’s little sweetheart.
Isn’t her room just the sweetest?
I approached this project in a very similar way as my daughter’s headboard, featured here. I drew out the design I wanted for the bow on the back of some wrapping paper (since I couldn’t find my brown craft paper), which was folded in half.
I then cut it out, unfolded it, and traced it on to my 3/4 inch wood.
My handy dude cut the bow shape out with a jig saw.
I then traced the shape on to my 1/2 inch foam and cut the foam to size. I repeated the process with batting, but left extra for the overhang.
I used my nail gun to staple the batting in place. Once that was done, I cut the fabric to size, ensuring there was enough left to staple it all in place. The key here is to select a fabric with a bit of a stretch to it. It’s WAY easier to manipulate into place without having folds showing everywhere.
Once stapled in place, I trimmed off the excess fabric. To add the “ribbons that hang down”, I used velcro for safety. My niece could easily remove these if she wants, and add them later when her daughter gets a little older.
To hang it on the wall, I screwed in two of these D hooks to the back of the bow.
For the middle section of the bow, I simply wrapped some of the purple fabric around some extra batting, and stapled it in place on the back. Voila!!! Here is the completed bow. Turned out much better (and bigger) than I had thought it would. Lol.
This slightly stretchy fabric was great to work with. I love the regal purple colour, and the texture gives it a nice sheen. All in all, this project was a success, and I hope my niece’s little girl loves it as much as I do.
That is it for the Tuesday post. See you again on Friday everyone.
