Hi Friends. I’ve been on holidays for the past two weeks and haven’t posted much, but I’m back into the full swing of things after some much needed R&R. One of the rooms I’m still working away at is my oldest daughter’s Paris themed room. As with all my decorating projects, this one is taking a while to complete. I like to take my time to collect the right items and to transform others.
I found this large ornate painting at a thrift store a couple months ago. I LOVED the look of the frame, but it needed to the spray painted. My daughter recently asked for more gold to be added to her room, so I happily obliged. She said “a cool gold though, not an old lady gold…” Lol!!!
I’ve tried many metallic spray paints before, but I thought in an attempt to keep the gold “cool”, I’d try something new. I’m so glad I did, because this Krylon 18 Kt. Gold Plate spray paint was by far the BEST metallic spray paint I’ve ever used. I was able to spray several different items, the finish was smooth, and the gold metallic colour was perfect. And best of all, it’s actually shiny.
After I sprayed the frame, I painted the back of the painting with black chalkboard paint, and then nailed it back in place inside the frame.
To secure the chalkboard to the wall, I added two D hooks to the back of the frame.
Here is the completed vignette, after I added some white christmas lights around the frame.
My daughter can use the chalkboard as decoration, to draw, or to write down homework reminders.
This Shoe Art was simply a gift bag I saw at the dollar store. I cut the portion out that I wanted and put it in a frame. Voila! Instant coordinating artwork. I bought pink chalk to match the overall theme.
The lights around the chalkboard are my favourite thing about this vignette. They keep the gold ornate frame youthful and “cool” (hopefully). And, for a final touch, I added a banner to the corner of the frame, using some pretty craft paper to help tie all the colours together.
Here is a close up of the frame and the banner.
Well, that’s it for today’s post, and I’m thrilled that my picky teenager responded with “OMG, I love it 🙂 :)” when I sent her a pic of the completed vignette. Yay! She likes it.
See you at the end of the week everyone. I hope you all have a great one 🙂
